Seeking (3) Maintenance Mechanic Interns.
Location: Coal Creek Station, Underwood, ND.
Duration: May 2018 – August 2018
Great River Energy is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Intern to have the opportunity to be exposed to the utilities industry and will perform and assist in routine mechanical maintenance including inspections and repairs.
Performs routine mechanical maintenance work including inspection, repair and lubrication of plant equipment to ensure availability, reliability and to maximize efficiency of plant equipment and processes. Mechanical equipment projects may include but are not limited to:
Performs project management assistance and coordination to facilitate safe, accurate, and efficient implementation of the following:
Absorber cleaning Lubrication of plant equipment
Hydro laser Vacuum truck
Assists with the installation of new replacement mechanical equipment and related components while insuring safe and reliable operations. Supports long term maintenance programs to support equipment including:
Maintains proficiency through continuous learning and regulatory compliance from various agencies to ensure safety to self, others and equipment. Agencies include, but are not limited to: NFPA, OSHA, EPA and the State Department of Health.
Participates in training and completes qualifications to support State and Federal requirements
Recommends continuous improvements to maximize implementation and effectiveness of Coal Creek Station’s mechanical work practices.
Complete specific training to enhance knowledge and skills for required safety regulatory process and system technologies within plant ownership areas.
Drive GRE vehicles to other sites.
Must be enrolled in a mechanical maintenance technology curriculum from an accredited institution. General mechanical knowledge and experience obtained through co-op, internship and/or work experience is preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge of general mechanic maintenance procedures and techniques including welding, lubrication, etc.
Knowledge and skills needed to assist all aspects of mechanical maintenance in a complex industrial electric plant, including maintenance management activities for immediate and long term needs
Skills and ability to learn, interpret and follow standards, safety procedures, regulatory and environmental compliance practice in support of GREs safety program, environmental management system and Coal Creek Stations Mechanical safety program
Ability to perform both light and heavy rigging on all types of jobs as well as plan assigned jobs
Ability to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices
Ability to read and comprehend training materials and apply concepts on the job
Must possess good customer relations, communication and technical skills.
Must be able to travel to various locations throughout the plant sight including climbing on pipe or scaffolding and perform maintenance inside vessels and confined spaces. Must work around, over and under large equipment and at heights on mobile lifts. Conditions include extreme temperatures, hot and cold, high noise levels, occasional heavy lifting, dust, wet, electrical hazards and outside work under all weather conditions. May be asked to work overtime and shift. Must work around chemicals, gases, and high pressure steam, and at times may travel away from regular work place. Required to wear personal protective equipment. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job.
